Kouga Dam reaches capacity, residents evacuated due to flood risk

Residents across Kouga Municipality have been evacuated to temporary accommodation after the Kouga Dam reached full capacity, posing a flooding risk to nearby communities.

Residents of Thornhill informal settlement have also been evacuated to community halls.

Residents Amanda Mvenya and Linda Moyi say they spent their second night at a community hall, not knowing where their next meal will come from.

“I came with my four kids, my furniture is damaged because of the water.”

“I’m feeling so bad because it’s very difficult to sleep at my house. My house has been damaged. My food has spoilt. I have no blankets, I have no beds.”
