Two people have died following a shack fire incident at Emdeni Extension in Soweto, Johannesburg.
The City’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) says firefighters responded to the blaze at around 5 am.
The victims were found burnt beyond recognition.
EMS Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
He has also urged residents to be extra cautious as the cold weather season sets in.
Mulaudzi says, “The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services have noticed the change of weather patterns in most parts of the city of Johannesburg, so we are pleading with our residents to be cautious when they’re using any heating devices.”
“Make sure that those heating devices are not left unattended so that we can be able to prevent fire incidents which might occur at home. For any life-threatening emergencies, our residents are encouraged to call our emergency management services command and control centre,” he adds.
