Fighting organised crime, gang violence is a priority: Dimpane

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has outlined her commitment to carrying out President Cyril Ramaphosa’s crime-fighting instructions.

Dimpane, who was appointed earlier this month after the precautionary suspension of Fannie Masemola, addressed Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police on Wednesday.

She says the instructions include making fighting corruption, organised crime and gang-related violence a priority.

Dimpane says, “The President provided a comprehensive road map of crime-related challenges and the plan responses in the 2026 State of the Nation Address (Sona), which provides direction for key departments working in the justice, crime prevention and security  (JCPS)cluster.”

“The criminal justice system, including the South African Police Service (SAPS). A total of eight crime-related results areas and issues were specified, Chair. All of which requires a direct response from the SAPS in collaboration with key JCPS cluster departments.”

She adds: “The President also gave an indication of the manner in how these responses to the crime-related challenges should be addressed.”
