Electricity power box
Power utility-City Power has again disconnected two property development estates in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg that are reported to be illegally reconnected to the electricity network.
The properties had been cut off during a previous operation last week following an anonymous tip-off. During the sting operation, the power utility confiscated a non-vending meter and removed 1,000 kg of stolen cables, valued at approximately R250,000.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the illegal connection poses a risk to the families staying in the two estates.
“The illegally installed cables were found dangling from one pole to another and some were lying on the ground, creating significant safety hazards for the residents. A case of tampering with essential infrastructure and illegal connections has been opened at the Mondeor Police Station. A warrant for the arrest of the property owner, a male in his 50s, has been issued.”
