Parly’s Portfolio Committee on Police expresses confidence in Dimpane

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Acting National Police Commissioner General Puleng Dimpane.

Dimpane was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday.

Her appointment follows the placement of Fannie Masemola on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of his case.

Masemola is charged with violating the Public Finance Management Act in relation to the R360 million SAPS tender awarded to alleged cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The Committee’s Chairperson, Ian Cameron, says: “In terms of the procurement crisis and corruption within the procurement space, I think that General Dimpane has a lot of experience about what has been done wrong over the past few years in that space.”

Cameron says, “I think one of the big things that she’ll be pressured about from all different spheres is the critical suspension that should happen to the head of supply chain management in the SAPS, Lieutenant General Molefe Fannie, someone that had played a critical role in allowing Mr Cat Matlala and Medicare 24 to gain access to the SAPS. She was actually one of the people that flagged that specific contract.”
