MEC Sefuba praises Mangaung Athletics Club for Freedom Day marathon


Free State MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Zanele Sefuba has praised the Mangaung Athletics Club for the Freedom Day marathon and for its role in both community development and economic growth.

The club organised a Freedom Day marathon as build up to the national celebration on Monday.

Sefuba says events like these not only promote health and wellness, but also create opportunities for small businesses and individuals who earn a living through sport.

She commended the partnership between organisers and stakeholders for supporting local SMME’s. The MEC says sport plays a vital role in uplifting communities and contributing to households income.

“Which is why we want to commend Mangaung Marathon working together with Minister Stella Ndabeni who is supporting the SMME’s displaying, that sports is not just sport for wellness and entertainment, but sports plays a very vital role in making sure that people contribute to the economy because there are people who live out of sport. Their sport brings income to some of the households, we cannot forget that. So we are happy that we are here today.”
