Diepkloof hostel residents vow ongoing protests over power outage

Angry residents of Diepkloof hostel in Soweto have vowed to continue protesting until electricity supply is restored to their area.

Earlier, residents clashed with police when their protest intensified, prompting officers to fire rubber bullets.

Some residents say power outages in their area have affected them severely.

“This is so frustrating because I can’t call, I can’t cook, and I don’t have electricity. We got our rights when Nelson Mandela was the president. We registered to get a house, but we have nothing. I am so sad because I have a child in the house who uses oxygen. It’s so sad we don’t have electricity, and they bring police here to kick our doors,” says one resident.
