Adv Batohi declines to continue evidence at Nkabinde Enquiry

The former Head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Advocate Shamila Batohi has formally declined to continue giving evidence at the Nkabinde Enquiry in Pretoria.

In a statement Batohi says her decision to stop testifying is “considered and informed”.  She says it was reached after “significant thought and reflection.

The enquiry is looking into the fitness of suspended Director of Public Prosecutions for South Gauteng, Andrew Chauke to hold the post.

Batohi had walked out of the inquiry in December last year citing the need to be able to consult with her legal advisors during cross examination.

The inquiry recently declined her bid to be able to consult with her lawyers during cross examination.

Following Batohi’s withdrawal, Evidence Leaders at the Nkabinde Enquiry have closed their case. They say they will not call any further witnesses.
