Suspended Provincial SAPS Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Daphney Manamela addressing the media in Mbombela, April 19, 2026.
The South African Police Service says the suspended Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Daphney Manamela should have approached the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry or Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee to give testimony.
Manamela made serious allegations of corruption, political interference, and the protection of criminal elements within the SAPS at a media briefing in Mbombela on Sunday.
General Masemola says Manamela must bring proof
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Manamela’s allegations should be tested.
“Those platforms had been established by the president so that those who have proof of wrongdoing, those who have proof of misconduct, or any other evidence of wrongdoing in law enforcement or the country as a whole must come forward and provide that evidence, and they will be allowed to present it before the commission; therefore, it is our wish that Lt Gen Manamela would utilize such a platform.”
