Gift of the Givers teams have been assisting across the Cape Metropole and Drakenstein following heavy rainfall and widespread flooding.
Humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers says it will deploy teams to areas affected by recent flooding in the Western Cape.
Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused flooding in several parts of the province.
The organisation says it has received numerous distress calls, particularly from informal settlements where homes have been flooded.
Spokesperson Ali Sablay says teams have already reached multiple areas and will continue to expand their efforts.
“Our teams will mainly focus on the humanitarian side of the distribution, and that we have managed to achieve in 13 of the areas yesterday. And today we will be extending beyond those 13 areas we’ve reached so far. There’s many areas that called us during the night as well. We had some rain during the early hours of this morning. So our teams will be trying to assist and going on the ground to do assessment in those areas as well.”
The organisation says assessments will continue as teams respond to affected communities.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as wet weather conditions persist.
