Rand Water says municipalities need to appoint highly skilled personnel to address ongoing water challenges, including ageing infrastructure.
Several areas across the country are facing water shortages, leading to the implementation of water cuts. Residents have also reported a dirty and contaminated water supply.
Rand Water’s head of sanitation, Thokozani Boikhutso, says municipalities must also ensure they are properly resourced.
“If you don’t have the required resources, you can have skills, you can have personnel, but if you don’t have the required resources, I am talking qualified competent personnel, competent specialised personnel in terms of process controllers as well as a competent maintenance team,” said Boikhutso.
He says both skills and resources are essential to improving water service delivery.
Rand Water has urged municipalities to strengthen their capacity to ensure a reliable and safe water supply.
