Two police officers have been shot and wounded at the Alexandra Police Station, north of Johannesburg.

It is believed that a suspect was shot and killed allegedly by the police, who were retaliating after the said suspect fired shots at them.

Alexandra ward councillor Adolph Marema, explaining what happened, says, “We received a report that a gentleman came (to the police station) to open a case. He ran out of patience and went on to grab a gun from one of the officers. Two police officers got injured.”

Marema further indicated the suspect had been attempting to leave the station as he fired shots, but police fired back.

It is unclear at this stage if there were any other injuries.
