W Cape calls on parents to apply for Grade 8 placements urgently

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED)  has urged parents who have not yet applied for Grade 8 placements for their children for the 2027 academic year to do so with urgency.  

The department says parents of 28 000 current Grade 7’s have not yet applied, with two weeks to go.  

The on-time admissions window closes on the 14th of April 2026. 

Provincial Education Minister David Maynier says parents should prioritise applications. 

“We have made it as easy as possible to apply and made help available to parents who are not able to complete their applications online, so there is no reason not to apply on time. There are still two weeks left to get the application in on time, before the on-time admissions window closes on Tuesday, the 14th of April 2026.”
