Maladministration, fraud lead complaints in Corruption Watch report

Corruption Watch says it has received a total of 2 222 complaints of which 91% were corruption related.

It released its 14th annual corruption report today titled Ke Nako: Mobilising for justice.

The organisation says as of 2024, the predominant type of reported corruption was maladministration at 408 cases followed by fraud with 330 cases.

Corruption Watch says other prevalent types of corruption included procurement irregularities, dereliction of duty and misappropriation of resources.

Most of the reported cases were against provincial government entities.

Gauteng remained the epicentre of reported corruption, with 993 cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 249.

Government departments including Education, Justice, Home Affairs and Health were also cited as corrupt, along with the South African Police Service, where a number of senior police officers are now before the courts, charged with fraud and corruption.
