Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa addresses the Africa Energy Indaba at the Cape Town International Convention Centre March 3, 2026
Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says government has been assured that load shedding in the country will soon be eradicated.
He was speaking during the passing of the 2026 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Ramokgopa says the current stoppage of power outages is the reflection of the commitment to end the cycle of load shedding.
He says, “I made the point that our interventions are political expedience, they are led by science, they are led by competence engineers and that we are going to solve the problem, and today we have solved the problem because we are technical competent. ”
Ramokgopa adds, “We know what we are doing. I am coming again before the country in public and I say as a group of engineers we are going to resolve load reduction.”
Eskom
Last week, Eskom said its financial position is improving, with government debt relief helping to stabilise its balance sheet and reduce its overall debt burden.
Eskom’s Chief Financial Officer Calib Cassim said debt levels have declined significantly following government support.
He said the next tranche of funding will further strengthen the utility’s balance sheet going into the new financial year.
While the numbers are pointing in the right direction, Eskom warned that rising municipal debt remains a key risk.
