WhatsApp chats between Nkosi and Mnisi dominate Madlanga Commission

WhatsApp chat messages between Gauteng’s Organised Crime Unit member, Fannie Nkosi, and Tshwane Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Gareth Mnisi have taken centre stage at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.

The commission has heard how Mnisi sent Nkosi a letter that the Hawks had addressed to the City of Tshwane.

The Hawks were seeking information on certain investigations in the City.

In the messages, Mnisi asked Nkosi how to deal with the matter.

The commission’s evidence leader, Matthew Chaskalson asked: “He, in fact, sent you a draft of the letter that he proposed to write back to the Hawks, and he asked you to read it and to confirm that it was in order.  Is that correct? And you responded to him, send, we just saw it now, I’m with Zungu. So in fact, you were speaking to Warrant Officer Zungu, who is in the Hawks, to get his advice also on how it would be appropriate to respond to this letter from the Hawks. Is that correct?”

Sergeant Nkosi agreed.
