Tshwane deputy mayor probed amid water tanker corruption allegations

The City of Tshwane is once again embroiled in a heated political battle as corruption allegations resurface regarding a massive R777 million water tanker project.

The controversy has sparked a public rift between former coalition partners, with accusations of falsified records and administrative negligence.

Corruption allegations are related to the awarding of contracts for water tankers in the City of Tshwane.

ActionSA national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, says there is falsified information regarding the awarding of the contracts to companies linked to Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise.

He resigned as director of one company following the payments.

DA mayoral candidate Cilliers Brink is also urging further investigation into the entire R777 million water project, which the Special Investigating Unit is also scrutinising.

Modise has denied any wrongdoing.

Beaumont says the contracts were awarded under the DA administration.

“The amount spent on water tankers in the city is really a concern. So water tankers themselves are necessary. But there’s one further thing that I think needs to be addressed here. Is that the same Cilliers Brink that is ambulance chasing this particular issue, is the same mayor under the government that awarded the contract to this particular company?” explains Beaumont.
