Two Limpopo minors burnt beyond recognition in backroom house

Two minor children have been burnt beyond recognition inside a backroom house at Tjatjaneng village, east of Polokwane, in Limpopo.

Police say the children aged three and five were left inside the room while their grandmother went to a tuckshop.

The grandmother was alerted by community members who tried to extinguish the fire.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the cause of the fire is still unknown.

“The two children were discovered inside the room on top of the bed burnt beyond recognition. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed deep sadness over the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”
