Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for eight suspects who shot and wounded two security guards in a cash-in-transit heist on the N2 south of Durban.
The suspects fled with bags of cash after the incident, which happened on Wednesday morning.
Police say the guards were travelling in a cash delivery truck when the heavily armed suspects intercepted them.
Reports indicate that the suspects bombed the cash vehicle.
One of the guards is in hospital in a critical condition.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says, “It’s alleged that eight suspects, who were travelling in two vehicles, opened fire on the cash delivery truck and brought it to a stop. Two security guards were shot and injured in the process.”
Netshiunda says, “ The suspects fled the scene with several bags of money; however, the safe remained intact. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station or call our crime stop number 08600 10111.”
