Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson
ActionSA has formally requested the Public Protector to investigate Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson’s alleged taxpayer-funded trip to Brazil with his partner.
The party’s appeal comes after the minister’s withdrawal of his initial Parliamentary response to ActionSA. MacPherson had apparently not mentioned that his partner had accompanied him.

The party says that Macpherson’s withdrawal came after a weekend media report alleged that he had ignored legal advice over his partner’s travel to Brazil.
Macpherson had, however, earlier stated that the media report had falsely said he’d ignored legal advice regarding his partner’s travel and incorrectly stated the cost associated with the trip.
‘The minister, in his own parliamentary response to us, did indeed confirm that the total spend of the trip was in fact much higher than the initially reported figure of R839000 that was reported in the newspapers. The trip in its totality cost the taxpayer R1,050,701.23, with R350000 being a portion specifically to his partner,” says ActionSA MP, Malebo Kobe.
