The African National Congress’s (ANC) Provincial Convenor in KwaZulu-Natal, Jeff Radebe has described this year’s local government elections as ‘a crucial referendum’ on the party’s renewal.
Addressing the party’s provincial Lekgotla in Durban, Radebe cautioned that voters will judge the party on its service delivery record and the performance of councillors.
He warned that voters will punish them in underperforming municipalities by voting for other political parties.
Referring to the ANC’s poor performance in the 2024 elections, Radebe says complacency can no longer be tolerated.
“Our public representatives that we must choose for the local government must understand that deploymnt is not a reward but a responsibility. Councillors of the ANC must be visible in every ward. Where underperformance persists, corrective measures must be swift.”
