The inquest into the Enyobeni Tavern tragedy has been postponed to the 23rd of February in the East London Magistrate’s Court sitting in Mdantsane.
This is due to the presiding magistrate having been unable to attend proceedings due to a bereavement.
The inquest has also been postponed for a new legal representative to familiarise himself with the matter.
The legal representative will be representing Thembisa Diko who was on duty at the tavern when the incident happened.
The inquest seeks to establish whether anyone can be held criminally liable for the deaths of 21 young people who perished at Enyobeni Tavern in Scenery Park back in June 2026.
