The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services says the wildfire that has been burning in the Du Toitskloof Pass area has been contained.
Spokesperson Anesca Roodt says the fire was first reported on Friday on the Worcester side of the pass and later spread to the Paarl side by the evening.
She says firefighting teams will be deployed on Sunday to monitor the area for possible flare-ups and to continue mopping-up operations until it is declared fully safe.
“No injuries or loss of property have been reported. The Du Toitskloof Pass is open to traffic. Hikers and mountain bikers planning to visit the area are advised to consult CapeNature for the latest updates; trails on the Worcester side of the pass were closed until further notice,” adds Roodt.
