One of his colleague, Kwanele Gumede, says their workplace will never be the same without him.
“It was very nice to work with David. David was a different person. I can say a lot. Even now, I am not well to talk about David because it’s painful. David did a lot for us,” says Gumede.
Sejobe was known to be a health and fitness champion. He inspired the local community to lead a healthy lifestyle, that led to establishing a health and fitness club.
Co-founder of the Mutakalo Wanga Foundation says the passing of Sejobe is a loss to the foundation whose work is grounded in promoting healthy lifestyle through cycling.
“We feel so sad. It’s a sad moment because we lost a giant. We lost someone that we were looking up to as he inspired a lot of people from this community where he is from. We lost a big giant. As Mutakalo Wanga Foundation, this is the organization which has been established here in this community where David Sejobe is from. We used to see him riding a bicycle. We saw him walking long distances and he has achieved a lot through that. We sat down with other people from this community as David Sejobe inspired us,” says a mourner.
Sejobe died in a hit-and-run accident in Johannesburg while he was cycling. His bereaved family have urged authorities to apprehended the responsible motorist.
“The family is shattered. We are very sad for losing this young man. He is very loved by many people. He was a good man with a good heart. He had a beautiful soul and now we have lost him. The most critical thing which makes us sad is the way he lost his life,” says another mourner.
Sejobe was planning to cycle from South Africa to Ethiopia in April this year.
