The newly appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDDP), Adv Andy Mothibi, has assured South Africans that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will ensure that those implicated at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry are prosecuted.
He was speaking at a South African Police Service (SAPS) media briefing in Pretoria on Friday.
At the briefing, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola announced that investigations into SAPS members implicated in the commission are at an advanced stage.
Some members have been suspended already, while others have been informed of the intention to suspend them.
He also announced the establishment of a new task team that will investigate police members implicated at the inquiry.
Mothibi says the NPA will collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective prosecutorial decisions.
He says, “The law enforcement agencies demonstrate their commitment to transparency and accountability in helping to build trust in our institution and the entire criminal justice system. National Commissioner, I would like to assure you we will bring in our support to ensure an effective investigation that will lead to a prosecutorial decision.”
