The suspect was arrested for fraud and contravention of the Health Professions Act.
The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) has exposed another individual operating as a medical practitioner without being registered with the Council.
The female foreign national was arrested in Midrand, Gauteng, where she was temporarily standing in for General Practitioner Dr Ahmed Kaka.
HPCSA Registrar, Dr Magome Masike says action will be taken against both individuals in question.
“Well, the incident came to the attention of the Health Professions Council of South Africa through its ongoing compliance and enforcement inspections. In this specific case, it formed part of a joint operation conducted by the Health Professions Council of South Africa inspectorate office and members of the South African Police Service Crime Intelligence Division and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Department. And during the operation, an individual was found to be practicing without being registered with the Health Professions Council, which led to the immediate intervention and arrest.”
