Outside a Joshco building in Johannesburg,
Tenants operating from the Johannesburg Social Housing Company-owned commercial spaces in the inner city collectively owe the entity over R2 million.
That is according to City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso. He was speaking during an operation of several law enforcement agencies to assesse compliance.
Mabaso says some tenants have entered into payment arrangements, but he has raised concern about the amounts they are paying.
“These people that are trading here, combined, are owing us R2.5 million. They have made payment arrangements, they have signed acknowledgement of debt, but with the amount that they are paying, it does not demonstrate people who are willing to settle the money that they are owing to the entity, which is Joshco.”
