Police say they are investigating an incident in which there was an attempted hit on a person implicated at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
They have identified him as Wiandre Pretorius. He’s reported to be linked to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department.
Preliminary information suggests that deceased Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, mentioned Pretorius during his testimony.
Pretorius is said to be among several people currently under investigation in connection with the deadly shooting of Van der Merwe in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg in December last year.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni was speaking to the media outside the home of Pretorius in Boksburg.
“We can confirm that this morning, the victim was moving from a garage to the address where he stays. There was a vehicle which moved towards his vehicle as he was stopping in front of the gate and suddenly, this particular vehicle started shooting and then he hid. Based on our observation, there are 16 bullets around the vehicle and he was not harmed and suddenly that vehicle sped off.”
