Gigaba expected back in court for Transnet case

Former Public Enterprises Minister Dr Malusi Gigaba is expected to be back in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on the East Rand on Friday.

This is in relation to the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption at Transnet.

Gigaba, who was the public enterprises minister between 2010 and 2014, has not been indicted and the matter has not yet been set down for trial.

His lawyer, Nicholas Kourie says, “This appearance is procedural and administrative in nature. It does not constitute a trial and no adjudication of guilt will occur. No plea will be entered and no evidence will be led on the day.”

“Dr Gigaba was served with a charge sheet via a J175 summons in early November 2025. Dr Gigaba maintains his innocence and continues to cooperate fully with the legal process.”

Kourie adds: “Out of respect for the court, he will not litigate this matter in the media. The matter will be addressed in the appropriate forum and at the appropriate stage of the court process, in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law.”
