Matric leaners in a classroom.
Western Cape Minister of Education David Maynier says his department will now focus on improving the quality of Matric passes.
This follows the province’s record-breaking performance in the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Exams.
The Western Cape achieved an 88.2% pass rate and a Bachelors pass rate of 49.2%, the province’s best performance ever.
Maynier was speaking at the province’s 2025 National Senior Certificate Awards gathering at the Premier’s residence, at Leeuwenhof, Cape Town.
“The record-breaking class achieved the highest pass rate ever for our province and the highest Bachelors pass rate ever for our province. Our next goal is to improve the quality of our Matric passes in terms of Bachelors passes and performance in Mathematics and Physical Science. And to the class of 2026, the challenge has been set. So, we can’t wait to see what you can do this year.”
We had a fantastic day celebrating our matric Class of 2025, which delivered our highest pass rate and bachelor’s pass rate ever! Our top achievers have a bright future ahead of them, and we wish them all the best for the coming year.
