Madlanga inquiry’s evidence leader rejects Senona prejudice claims

Evidence leader Adv Adila Hassim has rejected an argument advanced by KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona’s legal counsel that they have been prejudiced by the Madlanga Commission.

Senona has returned to the commission for a third consecutive day.

Adv Palesa Mafisa has argued that certain documents were not provided to them in time, thus placing their client at a disadvantage.

This includes WhatsApp messages that have been the subject of scrutiny before the Commission.

However, Hassim has dismissed the argument, stating that it is factually incorrect.

She says, “As far as the questioning yesterday (Wednesday) that Ms. Mafisa says was unfair because she relied on information that had not been provided to the witness before the statement, that is factually incorrect.  It’s factually incorrect. I questioned the witness on an annexure to the WhatsApps and the question was why is it we are getting a response now on the issue we were engaging on?”
