Pretoria Constables’ deaths were accidental: Preliminary report

The preliminary report into the deaths of three police Constables whose bodies were retrieved from the Hennops River in Pretoria in May last year indicates that the incident was an accident.

The report points to high speed being the possible cause of the crash, an analysis that the families of the deceased are rejecting.

The Constables, Cebekhulu Linda, Boipelo Senoge and Keamogetsoe Buys went missing while travelling from their homes in Bloemfontein to a Limpopo base, where two of the officers were stationed.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola met with the families following the Police Day celebration at Dr Rantlai Molemela Stadium.

However, Masemola says the investigation is not finalised.

“In terms of the data we have, the data leads one to say that it’s an accident that has happened. But there are areas that need to be investigated to support that. We cannot conclusively say we are done with everything; there are reports that we still need, especially from other experts.”

Masemola adds: “But those experts that were here today were able to give the family feedback to say in terms of data, electronic data, data can account for the movement of the car where it was, but of course, it is not all the reports. Some reports are not yet completed.”
