The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Gauteng has called for an urgent investigation into the African National Congress’s (ANC) election integrity.
This follows the discovery of ballot papers from the ANC’s Johannesburg conference at a house in Pretoria, which saw Loyiso Masuku being elected as the region’s new chairperson.
There are allegations of manipulation of the elective conference.
Sanco’s Gauteng Chairperson Abram Mashishi says, “This thing of the ANC doesn’t surprise us, as we all know that even the Deputy President declared that people must be allowed to use money. It’s possible that the IEC officials can be bought, and if that has happened, the IEC officials must be held accountable and that conference must be re-run. There must be a thorough investigation.”
ANC ALLIANCE
The civic organisation has hinted at the possibility of withdrawing from the tripartite alliance.
Sanco Provincial Chairperson Abram Mashishi has expressed dissatisfaction with the way the ANC treats it, describing it as exploitation during elections but exclusion from government.
Mashishi says, “As Sanco, we are saying we are not happy, 30 years down and we’ve been complaining about one thing as a matter of directives of national, we have been directed by national. We were supposed, as provinces, to go to the National General Council in December so that we are able to prepare and reflect on the treatment that we get from the ANC, whether to take a decision that we will stand alone or support the ANC…”
