Malema firearm case pre-sentencing hearing postponed to April

The case against Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema has been adjourned to the 15th of April for closing arguments.
The East London Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape heard pre-sentencing arguments of which the defense called social worker, Jessie Thompson, today.
In her statement, Thompson argued for a fine to be imposed on Malema.
The EFF leader was convicted in October last year for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area and reckless endangerment.
The incident occurred during EFF’s 5th anniversary celebrations at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in 2018.

The legal team representing  Malema has questioned the social worker who provided a pre-sentencing report on how Malema’s work in various communities may influence his sentencing.

Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, representing Malema, re-examined Thompson.
