Police presence outside the North Gauteng Hight Court in Pretoria on 16 October 2023.
The state in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has highlighted contradictions in the testimony of defence witness, Sifiso Gwabini Zungu.
He is back on the witness stand at the High Court in Pretoria after the presiding judge ruled that the state can cross examine him about a statement he allegedly made to the police.
Five men are currently on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
Gwabini claims he was assaulted numerous times and forced to sign the statement in June 2020.
After deliberations on whether Gwabini should be questioned on the statement, the court ruled that the state can quiz him on that contested document.
State prosecutor George Baloyi questioned Gwabini on why there were no visible injuries recorded when he was detained.
Gwabini also alleges he was released without appearing in court after paying cash to the investigating officers.
However, Advocate Baloyi grilled him on the contradictory amounts, as amounts of R200, R2 000 and R3 000 were mentioned.
Gwabini is expected back on the witness stand on Tuesday morning.
