State in the Meyiwa trial set to continue cross-examining Zungu

The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is expected to continue cross-examining defence witness Sifiso Gwabini Zungu regarding contradictions in his testimony on Tuesday morning.

Zungu has been under cross-examination in the Pretoria High Court, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

He has alleged that he was assaulted at various locations following his arrest in June 2020.

However, he says he was released without appearing in court after allegedly paying money to the investigating officers.

State advocate George Baloyi grilled him on contradictions relating to the amount paid.

“You testified that this money was allegedly handed to Sergeant Mogane in the holding area, or the waiting area and the cells, and you testified that Sergeant Mogane told you that the R2 000 was for bail.”

Zungu denied that it was R2 000, saying it was R3 000 instead.
