City Power employees
A person has been arrested during a City Power-led electricity disconnection operation in Lenasia south of Johannesburg. The arrest was made after the person threatened City officials and encouraged residents to obstruct law enforcement.
The operation focused on 10 business customers with municipal debt running into hundreds of millions of rands.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says customers in Lenasia owe City Power close to R900 million.
“Lenasia is the lowest buying region in the City Power books. It’s very concerning and this is something that we are going to follow up to make sure that we force some of these residents, also the businesses, so that they can start buying electricity. This is the money that we need to invest in the infrastructure and be able to run our operations.”
