A shooting crime scene.
Seven people have been shot dead in the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East on the Cape Flats. One of the victims is a woman.
Police say three men were wounded in the incident which happened in the early hours of this morning.
The incident is suspected to be related to extortion in the area.
Police spokesperson André Traut says the injured have been taken to hospital.
He says the suspects fled the scene.
In October last year, seven men were shot and killed in Philippi East.
