KZN road inspections continue this month to ensure children’s safety

The KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC, Siboniso Duma, says they will continue with road safety inspections until the end of this month to ensure safety of school children.

63 scholar transport vehicles have failed recent road-worthiness inspections conducted in the province.

The inspections are being conducted by the Road Traffic Inspectorate and Operation Shanela ahead of the start of the 2026 academic year today.

The province has around 77 000 learners using scholar transport.

Transport MEC Duma says the inspections will not end with the opening of schools.

“We’re proceeding with the process of inspecting these taxis and buses till the end of January because the main and the thrust is to ensure that we’re still on the road, they’re adhering and every inspection has been done to the last end and those were taken back to the pound are back after the service.”
