Mattafin residents concerned as sewage flows into their homes

Residents of Mattafin in Mpumalanga have raised concerns over sewage waste flowing into their homes, especially when it rains.

Some claim that the situation has not only put their lives at risk, but also their belongings, such as furniture.

Others have accused the municipality of leaving sewage manholes uncovered.

Concerned resident Joseph Cossa says stormwater that consists of sewage waste flows into their houses.

“All our furniture has been destroyed, the food and also we now do not have beds to sleep. We don’t know how we can be assisted with this problem and we have also noticed that the sewage pipe is not covered, and they used a small pipe. I have tried building a wall at the gate. I am hoping that it will prevent the storm water from flowing inside my house,” says Cossa.
