Brink raises concerns over prolonged power outage in Tshwane

Former City of Tshwane Mayor, Cilliers Brink, has raised concerns over the prolonged power outage in various parts of the city.

Residents in Soshanguve and East Lynne have expressed frustration over the electricity outage which happened around Christmas Eve.

They say they’ve also experienced water disruptions during this period.

Brink, who served as the city’s mayor for 18 months from 2023 to 2024, has accused the city’s current administration of inadequate planning and management.

“It seems that many management personnel are on leave, which is understandable, but it’s also a management responsibility to ensure that you’ve got critical staff who do attend to the shop while others are on leave. And there have been teams working in East Lynne, but it would seem that the effort isn’t entirely coordinated and supported by management. I see there has been some progress in Soshanguve. Yesterday, I spoke to the city manager, and I asked – please coordinate resources. See where there are real problems and allocate resources to those areas,” says Brink.
