African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA) Secretary-General Dornathus Dlamini has called on government to provide them with security for farmers.
He spoke at the Association’s KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson Mbongeni Sikhakhane’s memorial service on Friday.
Sikhakhane was killed on his farm near Pietermaritzburg last week.
Dlamini says farmers are concerned about their safety.
He says, “The government must protect us and must come to us and make a plan on how they are going to protect the farmers, as farmers contribute a lot in the economy of the province. At the moment farmers are not free at all and as we are here in this memorial service, farmers are concerned with their safety. The government can even put even cameras around the areas of farmers and organise people who can patrol every time as they killed Sikhakhane at his house.”
