1 700 vehicles per hour recorded on N3 towards Jhb from Durban

Traffic volumes from KwaZulu-Natal towards Johannesburg on the N3 have reached almost 1 700 vehicles per hour on Friday.

This as holidaymakers have started returning home after New Year’s Day.

N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) Chief Operating Officer Thania Dhoogra says they expect such heavy traffic to continue throughout the coming weekend.

The N3TC has expressed concern over the high number of motorists who are caught speeding.

Dhoogra says the mixture of trucks and light motor vehicles using the N3, makes driving conditions on this highway different from elsewhere.

She says under these conditions motorists need to take extra care.

“Please remember that there’s a large differential between heavy and light motor vehicles on the road, which requires additional consideration. Stick to the speed limit, keep your headlights turned on, avoid blind spots, only ever overtake when it is safe to do so, and always buckle up.”
