Northern Cape and Free State join hands to improve road safety

The Director of Transport Regulation for Northern Cape’s Department of Transport says collaboration with the Free State will boost effectiveness and ensure the safety of road users.

Nonkoliseko Joka says head-on collisions have increased during this festive season.

The department has joined resources with the Free State, to tackle the problem.

Joka says some non-compliant motorists use the N8 to avoid the N1 which always has high police visibility.

“It is very important because today is the New Year’s, this is the weekend where South Africans become excited, and our roads re characterized by high traffic volumes and that leads to fatal crashes and we end up losing lives. We are here today because mainly we want to ensure that all South Africans are safe on our roads.”
