Cape Town’s majestic Table Mountain.
City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith has urged the public to be responsible when celebrating tonight’s crossover into the New Year.
Smith has warned motorist against drinking and driving.
He says the public must follow the directions of law enforcement officers.
“Let’s enter the New Year the right way let us celebrate responsibly and with due regard for our safety and that of others. Drink in moderation if you must and be the life of the party and not the reason why everyone’s experience is sour. If you are going to drink, choose the passenger seat or stay over but do not get behind the wheel. Do not set off fireworks without a permit, it’s not only traumatic for pets and people but it also creates an unnecessary fire risk. Listen to the instructions of law enforcement and emergency service staff they are taking time away from their loved ones to keep the public safe and some consideration for them goes a long way.”
