Traffic officers conducting a road safety operation.
The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga has expressed concern with the number of motorists who have been caught speeding on the N3 toll road near Grootvlei.
Last week, three male drivers were arrested.
The department’s spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says three more male drivers were arrested in the same area on Wednesday morning.
“The first one was driving at 187 km/h, the other one was 165 km/h, the other one 161. We really applaud the officers, remember, most of the fatal crashes and the deadly crashes that we’ve recorded, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year are as a result of excessive speeding mostly, dangerous overtaking, leading to motorists losing control of their vehicles or colliding with the other ones and then the impact as a result of speed. It becomes huge such that you would have many people losing their lives in a single incident.”
