Mangaung Metro warns against buying fireworks from illegal traders

The Mangaung Metro Municipality in Bloemfontein has raised concerns about the purchase of fireworks from unauthorised outlets. This is as municipal by-laws stipulate that all traders must have the Explosives Traders Permit issued by SAPS clearly displayed on the premises.

MMC for Community Safety and Transport, Logan Kruger, has advised parents to supervise their children who are under the age of 16 and practice caution when using fireworks.

In the past children lost their fingers, hands and eyes due to negligence. She says people should adhere to times stipulated by the by-laws.

“Some people use them at 3 am, 4 am and that is so disrespectful. And also, because it is this time of the year, we don’t know if it is a bullet. But I am saying when you use them let us be mindful of the time and how we use it. The municipality can issue a fine or people can go to jail depending on the severity of the transgression.”
