Gauteng Traffic Police arrest 13 for drunk driving around Pretoria

Gauteng Traffic Police have arrested 13 suspects on Saturday night for driving under the influence of alcohol in and around Pretoria. Nine of the suspects were arrested in Hammanskraal and four in Bronkhorstspruit.

A 60-year-old motocyclist was also arrested on the N1 in Centurion for riding at 201 kilometers per hour in a 120 kilometer per hour zone.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane says excessive speed and driving under the influence of intoxicating alcohol are the leading cause to road traffic crashes.

“Anyone found guilty of any of these charges in a court of law may face direct imprisonment without an option of a fine. Gauteng Traffic Police will ensure anyone in contravention of road traffic rules faces the full might of the law,” says Maremane.
