Cape Winelands firefighters battle three separate blazes

Firefighters from the Cape Winelands District Municipality have been attending to three separate fires.

The Wemmershoek fire in the Drakenstein area was still raging late yesterday.

Spokesperson, Jo-Anne Otto says no structures are in immediate danger but several netted orchards require protection.

She says teams from the Drakenstein Fire Service and the Winelands Fire Protection Association have been assisting with firefighting operations in Paardeberg where another fire broke out.

“Together with the Winelands Fire Protection Association, landowners in the area have requested that aerial resources are deployed to aid in property protection. A third fire in the area of the Kwaggaskloof Dam, outside Worcester in the direction of Villiersdorp, was reported. Fire vehicles and ground teams have responded and are being assisted by the PMDC Black Hawk helicopter. There are a number of properties situated in the Kwaggaskloof area, which is a popular water sport venue.”
