Those involved in wrongdoing must face the consequences: Cachalia

Police Minister, Feroz Cachalia believes President Cyril Ramaphosa took a brave and wise decision to set up a commission of inquiry into allegations that crime syndicates have infiltrated political circles and the criminal justice system.

Cachalia was speaking at a police parade in Durban during an oversight visit of festive seasons safety operations.

He says democratic societies don’t sweep such allegations under the carpet.

His comments come after the Madlanga commission handed its preliminary report to Ramaphosa.

Cachalia says people who are found to have been involved in wrongdoing must face the consequences.

“We need people who exercise executive authority, people who are appointed as ministers, to do that job, not any other job. Not to associate with criminals. Not to spend their leisure time with criminals. Not to do deal with criminals when it comes to procurement. We want to make sure that if the police service enters into a contract that is aimed at promoting the well-being of our officers, that we contract with the right people.”
